ORIGIN

Overview

As the body reaches mid-way through its decaying progress the carcass will begin to release a highly toxic gas know as Raw MA, or unrefined magius. (see Magius) The sub-category of this gas is almost completely dependent on the individual and its prior life. However, there are many other unknown factors that may contribute to its chemical makeup. Nevertheless, just as all forms of Raw MA it is attracted to identical genetic duplicates of itself or the closest match, thus while these gasses are slowly released into the atmosphere they rapidly bundle together, lingering close to the form of origin. As the body further decays the MA forms clusters in the form of small translucent spheres that increases in size and decreases in opacity. Eventually the body will decay completely and these spheres will merge and solidify to the mage, and after a slight delay it will begin its slow journey to a new host, drifting for many years.

This orb, also known as a soul or ‘core’, is considered aware at the exact point of wandering. It understands the exact host required for the core to take root and bloom and may drift aimlessly for many years, or take a very direct route. This is less dependent on the core and more so on the host as the core may wait centuries for someone able to carry it. Often in cases where a core must wait too long it will take root in a premature host such as a child or woman considered too young to breed, virginity has no factor on this and while it is extremely rare there are many documented cases to back up the claim. The core is said to be unaware of things such as age but most hosts are between 25-30 years of age.

Once the core has taken root in a host it begins to develop not unlike a normal foetus, adapting to the form of the mother and manifesting in an appropriate manner to that kind. During this time the mother will gradually begin to receive ‘flashes’ or glimpses of the cores previous lives, but she will be unable to see everything. Rather she will act as a type of ‘keeper’ for these memories, maintaining them like a subconscious until she dies. Often the parent of a successful origin child will commit suicide or ritual sacrifice once the child has reached a certain age, usually between the ages of 20-35, so the body is more readily able to accept the foreign intrusion of so many memories not their own. Older children will have trouble accessing all information once held as their minds often try to reject the strangeness of other lives.

Research suggests that, while very rare, there have been occasions where young and even infant origin have received their memories prematurely, either through sickness or death of the mother at a young age. It is widely known that the origin is highly susceptible to insanity and other mental conditions, and they are far more prone to these instabilities in their youth. When a mother dies too soon, giving the child its memories in an immediate and unwelcome burst, the young mind will begin destroying itself, often leading to ‘split personality’. It may even begin to wipe memories or reconstruct them. Eventually the child will die or become severely ‘temperamental’.

During development of the foetus the mother/carrier will eventually become unable to adapt, it is assumed that this is to prevent deformation as the child attempts to mimic its mothers form. The mother will usually pick an appropriate form and or bestial society to raise the child into but it is not uncommon for the mother to raise an origin child alone, though not recommended. The reason for this is the child’s slow adaption rate after birth and usually adaption is simply not possible until seven to eight years of age. One can easily imagine the complications that would arise from such a situation.

The origin’s uncanny ability to adapt is one of their most widely known yet almost unexplainable facts, not only to emotional and environmental changes but physical representation. Because of this it is often said that the origin as a species simply does not have an original genetic form, rather they take on the form of those they are frequently in contact with or born to. Often times they will completely reorder their bone and muscle structure to perfectly mimic any particular creature they desire, lending them the unfortunate name of ‘face thieves’ or ‘form snatchers. Usually, though, the origin will adapt to a variety of different creatures by selecting particular physical and emotional attributes merely by willing it, thus triggering their adaptive mechanism to work according to how the host believes it well best survive.

Often young origin of 1-130 years have difficulty maintain additional attributes when in the company of other creatures, such as an Origin with an Odril form in the presence of a human colony. They’re skill in mental adaption vastly improves as they age and most Origin will have mastered it by their early three-hundreds.

Much like the physical form of the origin, gender is likewise as fluid and they will adapt themselves often to suit particular environmental changes such as priorities for certain sexes in foreign societies, and quite often merely for pleasure. Their genders range from the standard male or female to upper female – lower male, upper male-lower female, androgynous, multi, Hershi and various other combinations. For the most part origin are born with a particular gender which they will often associate more strongly with than any other adaption.

It is obvious why the origin as a species would face a great deal of intolerance, and they are known throughout many histories as various ‘demons’ or ‘tricksters’, but perhaps the most intimidating of what an origin has to offer would be their ability to directly affect the genetic code of any creature currently known. This means the origin may simply approach a creature/humanoid of their choosing and transfer marginal similarities witch will grow considerably in very short amounts of time. This ‘bond’ is what most origin refer to as the ‘touch of kin’, which they explain to be a very intimate and private bond that binds them to their ‘victim’ in not only flesh but every reincarnation thereafter.  This bond has often been viewed with suspicion and fear but only recently has it become more acceptable in society, instead being viewed as a ‘marriage ritual’ to avoid conflict.

The touch of kin, as mentioned before, is a very intimate bond. Even more so when compared to the typical bonds of other races. The Origin bond is more of a psychic connection that allows/promotes the transfer of physical and emotional sensations such as fear, love, happiness, pain etcetera. Likewise the ‘victim’ will experience physical changes not unlike origin adaption but to a lesser extent. The constant transferal of MA between the two will gradually immunise the victim to the effects of aging and most diseases but may also cause adaption via pigmentation change. It is unusual for a bond to progress much further but it is possible, over a very lengthy period of time, that the victim improve to structural adaption and elongated lifespan via reincarnation.

Through each of their following reincarnations the victim will recall their memories in a similar manner to the origin, but only up to the lifetime of infection and any incarnations before will forever be unknown to them. The longest known connection measured six lifetimes with an average of one to one fifty years each, physical adaptions of the victim were near identical to that of the origin but the victim also adapted in coloration while the origin is unable.

The diet of the origin consists of the fruit of the sanguine phosphorus, also known as ‘heart fruit’ or Et’ Mirum. The consumption of this fruit provides the origin with the mass to expand and contract his/her form.

Sin stands an intimidating 7'8, her legs are long and draconic/digitgrade in nature with two thumbs and four toes. They are remarkably well muscled and capable of easily wrapping around small farm animals such as sheep and goats and lifting them with ease. Her tail twice matches her height, thick and more serpentine in nature though lacking of the scales in place of thick hide. Her stomach is less toned than would be expected, and though it bares the indent of a natural birth she was never connected to her mother and requires no sustenance aside the 'blood' or 'oil' of sanguine phosphorus, otherwise known as the light plant.

Its fruit is round and usually crimson in nature contains a thick dark red/black oil that runs like tar, it is sickly sweet, much like condensed fruit, with an alt core. The alt core is super compressed mass that can only be digested by the origin digestive system. The skin of the Et’Mirum is thick, tough and leathery but strips away easily, similar to mango skin though it provides a not yet ripened sort of hardness. Origin will often eat the skin for the added taste but it is not necessary and indeed preferred by older, more seasoned warriors.

As it breaks down the core the size grows considerably and quite often will leave unnatural dis-indention, The origin use this added sustenance to rapidly adapt their body to a larger form, using the core to increase their flesh, muscle and blood mass. There are times, however, where an origin must adapt quickly to a more compressed form, during these times they are able to rapidly condense their matter into alt cores and if necessary quickly expel them from their system in the form of a tar like black liquid that quickly solidifies. This is often used by 'hunter hunters' as a tracking method, it is unreliable but can easily suggest the size the Origin is after the morph.

Sin alternates between expelling the core and maintaining them in a gravitational field around her person for consumption at a later date. This is a far more practical method and is quickly gaining popularity in Origin culture, though it is now called the 'Sin Method'. It takes a great many years to master the strength required to compress and maintain a core after it has been dispelled and Sin herself is still the master of this technique, capable of holding up to eight cores at any moment in time, behind her is grandmaster Sinnis with a total of five.

Sin, like most of her kind, prefers a form consisting of strengths of other races/species and while she tries to maintain a more humanoid, elven facial structure she wavers from time to time. She often prefers the thick muscled legs, tail and forearms of her birth race, all of whom bare four arms at birth and alphas of their social structure will often grow six. She prefers the two, she does maintain a more human structure but her fingers are long with sharp claws and may on occasion spout an extra thumb further up her arm. Her elbows are slightly wider than traditional for a humanoid race, likewise her hips are more widely set to accommodate her legs.

Her colour is far superior to the norm, and while all origin are monochrome by nature, Sin is able to induce tone with slightly more hue. Dull browns, blues, yellows etc. Though she is far from being even remotely vibrant it can still be a startling contrast to her kin. Her hair is usually several tones darker to her skin colour, but she can maintain separate tones for minute amounts of time.

Like all of her kind Sin's eye colour matches that of the traditional pallet, ranging from a bright green to golden orange, unusually bright, vibrant and contrasting as is common with age, and considering she is the oldest she has difficulty disguising them, even with contacts.

When breeding it is traditionally frowned upon for two origin to couple and produce offspring, and this is indeed rare, like all breeding among the withdrawn race. However it does, from time to time, happen. These children are Sol-Ori, second grade, and often mimic the skin tone of yellow sand. Their eyes often pale yellow/orange. They are not treated as outsiders but their weaknesses are considered facts that should be recognised. The young hold no anger towards it, and often strive harder than origin young. Sol-Ori do die of old age, unlike origin, but are reborn far quicker leaving no more than a two – three year gap, unlike origin who may remain in the in-between for up to 120 years.
